St Ignatius of Loyola

Spiritual Diary 178

“At this period of time it occurred to me that my humility, reverence and submission should be not that of a man who fears, but of a man who loves. With great faith I said, ‘Give me a lover’s humility,’ and so also concerning my reverence and submission.”

Spiritual Exercises 234

Take, Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, and all my will – all that I have and possess. You, Lord, have given all that to me. I now give it back to you, O Lord. All of it is yours. Dispose of it according to your will. Give me love of yourself along with your grace, for that is enough for me.”

Nothing is more practical than finding God, That is, than falling in a love in a quite absolute, final way. What you are in love with, what seizes your imagination will affect everything. It will decide what will get you out of bed in the mornings, What you will do with your evenings, How you spend your weekends, What you read, Who you know, What breaks your heart, And what amazes you with joy and gratitude. Fall in love, stay in love, and it will decide everything.
